Jo has 24 Years of Real Estate Experience in the Carolinas with emphasis on Equestrian and Lake Norman Non-Equestrian Properties in The Greater Charlotte Area. I was born in upstate New York where the ‘hearty’ battle the 6-foot snow drifts for the majority of the year. Close to the scenic Adirondack Mountains and dozens of beautiful natural lakes, I was young and naive enough to think this was heaven. And maybe it is, for polar bears!
I was lucky enough to live next door to my grandparents. I grew up with horses, pastures, frogs, and nature walks as my daily pastimes. As an only child I was protector to any type of winged or furry creature. In middle school, I took riding lessons on Morgan horses and developed a forever love of these magnificent creatures. In college, once again, I was fortunate enough to have a semester of English riding, which was my all-time favorite course.
My background prior to real estate was business college, medical office management, adjunct instructing at a local community college, and partner with my then husband in a high-end custom home-building business. We raised two beautiful daughters, both professionals, and I claim 8 grandchildren as my legacy.
Combining my former life near lakes, with my love of animals provides me with a unique niche in real estate. I am a notorious “out of the box thinker” and a people person. I call myself a survivor of many things, including interesting real estate markets, with my focus always on the good. Real estate is natural for me, as I enjoy matching people with homes, animal lovers with farms, and buyers and sellers move from one experience to another.
To state it simply, I love what I do.
My real estate career began in Central New York in 1987, where I listed and sold all price ranges, both re-sale and new construction. In 1995, I moved to the Charlotte area, and became the Real Estate Sales Director for a Country Club in Davidson NC, where I enjoyed working for over 10 years.
Julie Breedlove and I met through a referral when I was seeking a horse training facility for a new buyer. My colleagues in real estate told me she was the go-to Realtor® for anything equestrian or farm related, and they were right! In 2010 I made the decision to join her team. We represent properties in a variety of price ranges - primarily horse farms and homes with land - focused on the Greater Charlotte Metro Region and the Triad. Our market includes approximately 25 North Carolina counties and 8 South Carolina counties, just south of Charlotte, NC.
In my spare time, I ride my quarter horse Dolly, foster at-risk dogs and cats, and feed at least 25-30 spayed and neutered cats daily at various feral colonies. I have as my soulmates a sassy Yorkie named Toby, a darling long-haired Chihuahua named Taco, an endearing little 3 lb. Deer Head Chihuahua named Bugs, and my newest addition, Stormie, a Pomeranian. My life is full and happy. I believe in giving back and trying to make peoples' and animals' lives better.
